From Waste Land to Volleyball Court

There was a small plot of land on the farm that had turned into the informal dumping ground over the years. Trash, waste material, and unwanted things slowly collected there. This is what often happens when spaces are left unattended—without care, they become places to throw away what is no longer needed.

Instead of leaving it that way, a few of us from the farm and nearby community decided to reclaim it. Together, we cleaned up the space, leveled the soil, and rolled it out into a flat ground. With simple effort and teamwork, the empty patch was transformed into something new: an outdoor volleyball court.

A Community Space

Since then, the court has become one of the most lively spots on the farm. Farmers who live here, as well as people from the local community, gather to play in the evenings. It has become more than just a game—it is a space for coming together outside of work, for laughter, energy, and friendship.

Sports create connections that go beyond words. Playing together builds trust, teamwork, and a sense of belonging. For those who spend most of their day in the fields, it also provides a chance to stretch, move, and enjoy physical activity in a joyful way.

The Setting

The court itself is beautifully placed. On one side stands a mango garden, on the other, rows of banana trees. Overhead is the open sky, often glowing with the colors of sunset. With floodlights installed, play can continue after dark, adding a festive feeling to evening matches.

What was once neglected land is now filled with energy, movement, and laughter. The change is not only physical but also symbolic—showing how spaces can be renewed with a little care and community spirit.

More Than a Game

This small transformation has shown us the importance of sports and activity in daily life. Farming is hard work, and exercise often feels like part of the job. But a space dedicated to play brings a different kind of joy—one that refreshes the body and lifts the spirit.

The volleyball court is a reminder that land, like people, responds to attention. When looked after, it can hold life, beauty, and connection. Today, what was once a dumping ground has become a place of gathering, play, and celebration.
